Hi friends, today I wanted to talk about the importance of getting up and getting ready 🙂
As you can see from my picture, I have two very different faces! I love both of them because they’re both equally me. But one face is my “I’m ready for the day and I can do anything” face. And the other face is my “maybe I could sit on the couch and watch one more episode of Curious George with the kids…” face.
From early on in motherhood a dear friend of mine taught me the importance of getting ready for the day. As a stay-at-home-mom it is really really easy to stay in sweats and shower
never later! Who’s going to see me anyways?! The kids are going to snot all over my shoulders and I’ll probably get bleach on my clothes when I wash the bathroom. (At least that’s what would happen if I were to wash the bathroom!)…
I have found that it doesn’t matter if you wear make-up, jewelry, dresses, heels, or none of it- feeling like your best self makes you feel ready for the day! I have plenty of friends that don’t like to wear make-up and I am a huge proponent of being natural and feeling beautiful because of it. So this in NO MEANS is a “get prettier and wear make-up!” ladies. This is a post designed to recognize the mind-set shift that can happen when we prepare for our day.
You’re going to be working so hard today. Nobody knows the endless list that you have going on in your head that must be done in order to make the world keep spinning! There’s a lot on your shoulders as mom to your kiddo(s)! So do what you must to get ready for your day. What would that mean to you?
- Drying your hair?
- Painting your nails?
- Putting on make-up?
- Shaving your legs?
- Wearing something new that you’ve been saving for a more “special” occasion?
- Wearing shoes in your house?
- Putting on lip-gloss?
- Wearing perfume?
These are just a few of the things that I’ve found make me feel just that much readier for the day. Take some time to think about what makes you feel like your best self. And once you’ve found what those things are, try to do them daily. It’s probably unrealistic for you to have an hour to yourself in the bathroom every morning. But what is realistic and will make you feel more confident? You need a “this world is my playground” attitude in order to feel energetic about all the tasks at hand. What will give you that?
Please note: there are MANY times in life that this whole post DOES NOT APPLY. Feeling haggard, depressed, and like an insomniac is bound to be your reality here and there. So be nice to yourself! Staying in sweats, unshowered and completely sloppy has been a part of my life as well 🙂
But I do think there’s something to be said for when you can… prepare for your day by starting with you. What do you need to feel fresh? The rest of the day will flow easier and stronger. The overwhelming tasks will feel more doable. You’ll feel more confident and ready.
And who couldn’t use a little of that?
