I am so excited to start this journey with you!
First off, a little about myself. I am a mom of 3 boys, married for almost 11 years and live in Eugene, Oregon. I LOVE Eugene. I also LOVE my boys. My oldest is 8 and is named Taylor. He’s a kind genious that makes us laugh all of the time. He’s the ‘oldest’ 8 year old I know and can hang with everyone, young and old. My youngest is named Henry. Unfortunately his nick name is Hen…It just stuck on accident! He gives us a run for our money! He has a very ‘spirited’ personality and I never knew what that meant. I always thought it meant that someone didn’t follow the rules. But I finally get it. He is spirited, meaning that everything that he does, he does with gusto! He lives whole-heartedly and embraces everything with a confidence that I stive to have. My second son goes by Ollie (real name Oliver)…I know, I know… the nickname is just as long as his real name but I swear, there’s a really good reason. More on that later 🙂
It’s because of Ollie that I wanted to begin blogging. Ollie has many special needs and is deaf. This has been a loooooong, drawn out, painful, scary, wonderful, beautiful, honoring journey with him and I wanted to start sharing with others to encourage them on their journey.
On this blog I will focus on a few topics… special needs, hearing loss, and being a mom.
I am as imperfect as they get and will never claim to know it all. I simply want to share where I’ve come from, what’s working, and what’s not!… in order to hopefully (fingers crossed!) lighten someone else’s load. You are not alone and it takes a village to raise these kids. And it takes a special village to raise our “special” kids!
This blog will hopefully provide good resources to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community as well as the special needs community.
I hope to write weekly on different topics and would love to hear your feedback!
